A really wonderful writer, some really wonderful thoughts, and warm Chips Ahoy…

I think a lot of liberals/leftists/Dems are confusing a basic concept.  They confuse equal opportunity with equal outcome.  We are not guaranteed equal outcomes by the Constitution.  We are assured though, of equal opportunity to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  Note the “pursuit of happiness”.   There’s no guarantee that we’ll catch happiness, just the opportunity to find it for ourselves on equal footing with everybody else.Equal Opportunity Or Equal Outcome?, Jan 2009

And thus begins one of the most simple yet powerful paragraphs I’ve read in quite some time. My new friend, The Conservative Pup penned it on her blog conservativepup.com. She has an uncanny ability to make you “feel” what she writes (I can’t explain it, and I know it isn’t a very manly thing for me to say, but its true), and she writes quite wonderfully. I was so impressed by the first couple of articles I read that I wound up spending a good part of the day enjoying the “company” of a conservative, patriotic, God-loving colleague with a warm, inviting, logical writing style.

I read an article about Rush Limbaugh, and felt as though I could have written it myself (but my version would have included some misspellings, grammatical errors, and too many really long sentences….and lots of commas).

I read the obituary of common sense and heard my grandmother reading it to me, as she had so many times when she was still with us. Every time I hear it, I realize just how much I miss them both.

I read a poem, which took me 2 hours and 37 minutes   :)

(I don’t know what it is, but I SWEAR I smelled cookies every time I clicked a link….does WordPress have a plugin for that?!?! I NEED that one!)

And then I read strong, masterfully written intellectual pieces about economics, how to recognize communism, and Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.

When I was finished, I was encouraged, informed, reflective, and very happy I had taken the time to peruse a new friend’s brain.

But there were two issues which arose almost immediately which I have not yet been able to overcome:

  1. I had an undeniable craving for my mother’s chocolate chip cookies. I had to settle for some Chips Ahoy (microwaved for 20 seconds, they’ll almost pass).
  2. I am still unable to figure out how that puppy can type such great stuff, and without a single typo! Those paws just can’t be that nimble, can they?!?
The Conservative Pup truly is a wonderful spot for conservatives (and those who remember our dear, departed friend, common sense), to spend an afternoon, or just a few minutes if that’s all you have. Within the first article or two, you are sure to find a thought or idea that makes you stop and think “Right On, Puppy!” and if you don’t enjoy her writing style, then you probably don’t enjoy reading.
As soon as I finish this email to WordPress requesting that cookie-smell plugin thingy, I’ll be back visiting the pup.
She rocks!

  1. David,
I am totally blown away by your most kind and generous words. I’m glad you enjoyed the posts, and glad to see that you made it through the poem so quickly. :)

And what a nice thing to say about the cookies. Wow, my first review!

Thank you again, I appreciate it. Alabama boys rock!

PS: I do the typing and the pup, well he just helps remind me of what’s important in life.
